Jeremy Annear 'La Baleine (Blanche)' Monoprint 2021 23cmx27cm

This exquisite monoprint on fine print-making paper made from Thai Kozo (mulberry) forms part of a small series of uniquely different monoprints entirely produced by hand and signed by the celebrated artist Jeremy Annear. Known more recently for his works which delve into a place of 'pure abstraction', the minimalist yet intricate abstract rendering of 'la baleine' (the whale) is a rare figuration in the artist's work more in keeping with an earlier period of work.

However, this piece beautifully displays the artist's roots in the European modernist tradition and of St Ives School in his exploration of shape and colour which is omnipresent in his work whether in his large canvases or ink drawings as well as the influence of the coastal and maritime environment of his native Cornwall.
